Details of track and field events that we compete in as a club.

Wessex Young Athletes League

A regional track and field league for young athletes. Age groups covered are U11 (quadkids school years 4 and 5), U13, U15 and U17 age groups. Visit the Wessex Young Athletes website.

2024 season

For 2024, 27 clubs across Southern England will compete in the League, with competition spread over four rounds of matches. Each round consists of four different fixtures involving 6 -7 teams. Points accrue over the season to give a final league table and overall winner.

Athletes

U13, U15 and U17 age groups plus U11 Quadkids (school years 4 and 5).

Also, U20 non-scoring events.

Competition

Two athletes (“A” and “B”) in each event, in each age group. In addition, a limited number of non-scoring places are available at each match. A comprehensive range of track and field events are run.

Quadkids: up to 10 boys and 10 girls participate in the standard 4 events: 75m, 600m, Long Jump and Vortex Throw.

Midland Track and Field League

This is a senior track and field league based in the Midlands area for men and women. Abingdon AC competes in Division 3 SE for the 2024 season. U17 and U20 athletes are eligible to compete in this League. Visit the Midland League website.

This senior league consists of three divisions spanning from Abingdon in the south to Bristol in the west and North Notts in the north. Division 3 is further split into three local area divisions. The competition consists of four rounds spread over the summer period. Points accrue over the rounds, and promotion and relegation are decided at the end of the season.

Athletes

Senior, U20 and U17. U20 and U17 athletes have some limitations on the number of events they can compete in.

Competition

Two athletes (“A” and “B”) in each event, plus a limited number of “C” athletes. In addition, a limited number of non-scoring places are available at each match. A comprehensive range of track and field events are run.

Southern Counties Veterans League

This is a local/regional track and field league for master's athletes. The age groups covered are V35, V50, and V60 for men and women. Abingdon AC competes in the Western Division.

This is a local friendly League usually run on weekday nights over four rounds through the summer. In addition to the local South Oxfordshire clubs, clubs compete from the Reading, Newbury, and Swindon areas. Points accrue over the season to give a final League Table and overall winner.

Athletes

V35, V50 and V60 age groups.

Competition

Generally, two athletes in the V35 age category (“A” and “B”) in each event, plus V50 and V60 on an event-by-event basis. Also, a limited number of non-scoring places are available at each match. A comprehensive range of track and field events are run over the season.

The Oxfordshire Junior Track and Field League

A development league founded to give young athletes in Oxfordshire the opportunity to become involved in competitive athletics from the age of 8 upwards. The league offers competitions for QuadKids (Under 9 and Under 11), as well as Under 13, Under 15 and Under 17 athletes. Visit the Oxfordshire Junior League website.

All the Oxfordshire athletics clubs compete in this very popular junior league to promote athletics to young people. Runs over three meetings over the summer period.

Athletes

U13, U15 and U17 age groups plus U9 and U11 QuadKids.

Competition

Two athletes (“A” and “B”) in each event, in each age group. In addition, there are a limited number of non-scoring places available at each match. A comprehensive range of track and field events are run.

Quadkids: boys and girls take part in the standard four events: 75m, 600m, long jump and vortex throw.
