Hendred Handicap

Our annual race up a big hill to the Ridgeway and back.

The Hendred Handicap is a handicap race, everyone has a chance to win.

The race usually takes place on a Tuesday evening sometime in June or July. We start at a pub in East Hendred, run through the pretty village and then on up the hill until we reach The Ridgeway. At which point we turn around and head back down the hill (probably a lot faster than we went up it). The route is about 5.5 miles, half up and half down.

The handicap is a club only event, although guests can pay a small entry fee to run. All money from these entry fees and a raffle goes to the chosen charity.

How it works

All runners are handicapped based on their last 10 km or 5 km race time. Andrew calculates start times using his complicated and very secret formula. So, a runner with a 1h 20 min, 10 km time will start before a runner with a 45 min time. Hopefully, this means that anyone can win the race, and we should all finish within 10 minutes of each other.

Charity

This event is in memory of a member who sadly died in a car crash. We hold a raffle, and money raised on the night (including the entry fee for guests) goes to the Cousins family to donate to their chosen charity.
