Freith Hilly 5k

Another new race in the club champs calendar. Which, after Becks’ comment, shall always be known to me as “The Frilly”.

While driving to the race car park we went up a ominously steep hill that said 400m and 200m to go. More on that later.

Once again based at a primary school, number collection was well ran.

Nice to see some other Abingdon runners had made the journey. When called we all congregated at the 5km start, with the 10km start being just up ahead.

The first 1/2km took the place of the absent warm up.

Once off the country roads I really enjoyed the wooded sections and particularly a long steep downhill through a field.

I did my best to sustain a maybe bit optimistic pace. For the most part that worked. Felt pleased to be passed by the First Lady at about 1km to go, good pace making I thought.

The finish was all uphill living up to the race’s name. Although the gap between the 400m to go and the 200m to go seemed a lot further running than it did in the car earlier!

On to the next.
