Yuletide training treats 2019-20
Bernard's annual training sessions. It wouldn't be Christmas without them!
Christmas may be coming but with the county championships early in January, it is well worth keeping in shape. As in previous years, the endurance competition group will not be doing evening sessions at TP over the festive period but instead will be taking a spot of gentle morning exercise at various venues. These are open sessions, so why not join us and work up an appetite for elevenses?? – those sausage rolls won’t eat themselves.
The timetable over the festive season is as follows (all morning sessions leave promptly from the meeting point at 9 am and are usually done by about 10.10 am).
Thursday 19 December – final evening group session at TP for 2019.
Saturday 21 December – now as traditional as mince pies, our famous Monument session on the Ridgeway, the one that reaches those parts that other sessions can rarely even approach. From Wantage take the B4494 towards Newbury. After about 3 miles you will climb up to the Ridgeway, look for the monument on your left and the car park is on the left-hand side. Overspill car parking on the other side of the road. Shoes with grip advisable, bit too stony in parts for spikes.
Friday 27 December – Shotover for that renowned export from East Africa, “Kenyan hills”. Meet in the car park on Shotover Plain - from the Oxford ring road turn left after the mini works, keep straight on past the fire station and the small roundabout and after another 800m along The Slade turn right at the traffic lights. Keep going (you’ll go over a bridge above the ring road, then up the hill) and when the tarmac runs out you’ve arrived.
Spikes or shoes with grip advisable.
Saturday 28 December – no group session. However, plenty of parkruns around for those that fancy a 5 km tempo run.
Sunday 29 December (provisional) - Abingdon AC New Year run at Wittenham Clumps, details will be coming separately, this is not an ECG promotion.
Monday 30 December – grass session at Grove recreation ground. Meet in the large layby on Denchworth Road. Take the A338 towards Wantage, by-pass Grove and once past the village you’ll come to a traffic island. Turn right, go past the health centre on the right-hand side and after 300m turn right at the aircraft island (you cannot miss it). The layby is 300m down on the right.
Spikes or shoes with grip.
Thursday 2 January 2020 – a social trot using the footpath around Thrupp Lake. Flat circuit and flat shoes today. Leaving from the tennis centre car park in Audlett Drive, mass jog up to the lake (traffic-free), 30 - 40 min of free choice running, mass jog back.
Sunday 5 January – Oxon cross country league and county champs, Adderbury
Tuesday 7 January – normal evening service resumes at TP.
