Sportshall round 3
Sunday 14 January saw round 3 of sportshall taking place at Witney, with Abingdon having five new athletes taking part making our team total 20.
Our U11's came in 3rd place behind Witney and Bicester, above Banbury, White Horse Harriers, Radley and Oxford, so a huge well done to them. It just goes to show how each one of the athletes counts as we were only two athletes short of a full team for the girls and one short for the boys, so we weren't losing so many points to empty spaces! Just think what we could do with a full team....
If you can make the next one, please think about joining us, speak to your friends and see if we can up our numbers! I think most of our athletes who participate will say that they enjoy themselves Smile
U11 first time PB's were set by Jordan Gillbee, Ilyan Doddosiddo, David Naylor, Abbie Barrett and Emily Betts for the 1 lap, with Samantha Viner and Amy Frost also beating their PB's for this event. Speedbounce first time PB's for Nico Abitabile, Ilyan Doddosiddo and Emily Betts, with further PB's by Harry Winsey, David Naylor, EJ Brown, Abbie Barrett and Bethan Thompson. Vertical jump first time PB's for Nico Abitabile, Connor Morgan and Amy Frost with Bethan Thompson equalling her PB for this event. In the 3 lap, Connor Morgan and Samantha Viner both had PB's with Harry Winsey and Emily Betts setting first time PB's. Amy Frost set a PB for chest push, with Harry Winsey and Jordan Gillbee setting first time PB's for this event. EJ Brown also set a PB for the standing long jump.
The U13's set a lot of first time PB's having just come up to this age group, so there were first time PB's for Edward Betts, Oliver Thompson, Freya Halsall and Ruby Herring for the 2 lap and the paarlauf. First time PB's for the 6 lap for Edward Betts and Samuel Naylor and a first time PB for vertical jump for Edward Betts. The standing triple jump saw PB's for Oliver Thompson, Ruby Herring and Freya Halsall. Vertical jump PB for Oliver Thompson and a shot putt PB for Samuel Naylor. Ruby Herring had a first time PB for the 6 lap too, but also managed to break a long standing club record for this with a time of 1.31.7 (the previous record had been 1.31.8 by Jemma Gregory) so congratulations Ruby, well done! It's always good to see records going, especially when they've been there for some time.
Our U15's saw a PB for Daniel Naylor in the 2 lap and for Benji Davys in the 4 lap and the shot putt.
A big thank you to all the athletes who took part and their lovely parents (or Aunties!) who brought them and counted the speedbounces! Special thanks to Graham Winsey for co-ordinating the speedbounce, 5 mats is obviously the way to go!
If you're looking to take part next time please keep 11 February free as this will be round 4 of sportshall. As far as I know this will be at Wantage leisure centre, Portway, Wantage, OX12 9BY from 1.15-5pm (ish). There will be an invite coming out nearer to the time, so I look forward to seeing as many of you there as possible!
Fiona (sportshall team manager).
