Yuletide training treats
Join the endurance group for training treats for Christmas 2017.
Christmas may be coming but with the county championships early in January it is well worth keeping in shape. As in previous years the endurance competition group will not be doing evening sessions at TP over the festive period but instead will be taking a spot of gentle morning exercise at various venues. These are open sessions, an ideal opportunity to work off that extra helping of figgy pudding and a great excuse for elevenses – those sausage rolls won’t eat themselves.
The timetable over the festive season is as follows (all morning sessions leave promptly from the meeting point at 9am and are usually done by about 10.10am).
Tuesday 19 December – final evening session at TP for 2017.
Thursday 21 December - part of the tradition that is Christmas – the Monument session on the Ridgeway.
From Wantage take the B4494 towards Newbury. After about 3 miles you will climb up to the Ridgeway, look for the monument on your left and the car park is on the left hand side. Overspill car parking on the other side of the road. Shoes with grip advisable, bit too stony in parts for spikes.
Saturday 23 December – no group session, why not make use of a festive parkrun near you for a 5 km tempo run.
Wednesday 27 December – a social trot using the footpath around Thrupp Lake. Flat circuit and flat shoes today. Leaving from the tennis centre car park in Audlett Drive, mass jog up to the lake (traffic free), 30 min of free choice running, mass jog back.
Friday 29 December – cross country session at Shotover. Meet in the car park on Shotover Plain - from the Oxford ring road turn left after the mini works, keep straight on past the fire station and the small rbt and after another 800m along The Slade turn right at the traffic lights. Keep going and when the tarmac runs out you’ve arrived.
Saturday 30 December – no group session.
(Monday 1 January is likely to be the usual club NYD run, details will be coming separately)
Tuesday 2 Jan 2018 – grass session at Grove rec. Meet in the large layby on Denchworth Road. Take the A338 towards Wantage, by-pass Grove and once past the village you’ll come to a traffic island. Turn right, go past the health centre on the rhs and after 300m turn right at the aircraft island (you cannot miss it). The layby is 300m down on the right. Spikes or shoes with grip.
Thursday 4 January – normal evening service resumes at TP.
Sunday 7 January – Oxon cross country league and county champs
