Hendred Handicap

  • The Wheatsheaf inn Chapel Square Wantage, England, OX12 8JN United Kingdom (map)

Abingdon AC annual Hendred Handicap is in the diary for the 13th of June! Our annual Hendred Handicap event is held in memory of Jonathan Cousins who was tragically killed in a road accident some years ago, his brother Paul was a member of the club.

For those not in the know, it is a 5.5 mile(ish) run from the carpark of the old Plough Inn in East Hendred (OX12 8JW) up to the Ridgeway and back down again. You are handicapped on your 10 km time, so the person with the longest time will go first and the person with the quickest 10 km will set off last and then everyone in between depending on their times. This means that anyone can win.

The race will start at 7pm so please arrive in advance to pick up your number and pay. We suggest runners arrive at least 20 minutes before their start time.

The online entry form for both runners and volunteers is now open!

Entry closes 1st of June 18:50.

We need volunteers for the following: Course set up (before the run), help with starting runners and timing, marshals, issuing numbers, taking entry money, running the raffle.

After the run we will meet at the Wheatsheaf for food and drinks (OX12 8JN). The pub has requested that we pre-order by the week before (06/06) from the menu.
Please write your choice as a comment on the event Facebook page, or by emailing Sam. Food will be payable at the bar on the night.

Entry to the race will be £4 payable on the night. You’ll need to bring cash. We will also hold a raffle so please bring raffle prizes and money to buy raffle tickets.

All money raised through entry and the raffle will go to a charity chosen by the Cousins family.

If you drive you should either park in the carpark of the Wheatsheaf (OX14 8JN) or the streets around it.

Please note there will be no organised run from Tilsley park that evening.
